The United Nations World Food Program\u2019s (WFP) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/coronavirus-famine-world-food-program-david-beasley\/\"><u>director warned<\/u><\/a>\u00a0in January 2020 that \u201cthe worst is yet to come\u201d, as over 260 million people are at the brink of starvation and expect to face multiple famines \u201cof biblical proportions\u201d in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><strong><b>Sub-Saharan Africa Particularly At Risk<\/b><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The pandemic, compounded by widespread flooding, droughts, and economic disarray has left people vulnerable in the 16-nation Southern African Development Community.<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearth.org.in\/blog\/africa\/covid-19-will-magnify-food-shortage-in-africa-70895\"><u>significantly exacerbated food insecurity in Africa<\/u><\/a>. In addition to lockdowns that have disrupted food production and internal supply chains, huge locust swarms have destroyed crops in Eastern Africa, leaving the content all the more dependent on externally sourced food.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><b>How Extrusion Technology Is Bolstering Food Security in Africa<\/b><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>At a time like this when acute food insecurity is looming over the continent, CFAM Technologies, leading food extrusion equipment manufacturers, draw attention to food extrusion technology.<\/p>\n<p>Food extrusion is the process in which food ingredients like soy, wheat, maize, and many locally produced ingredients are combined with several conditions of mixing and heat application to formulate cooked food.
